My Mommy
My mom is the best mother in the world. See, when I was growing up, she was a severe alcoholic. And when I was old enough to realize, she also dabbled in every drug but weed and crack. At the age of 12, after a lot of drama and bad things in the house, I went on to placements, leaving behind 2 brothers. They soon after went to live with their dads, but since I didnt know my father, I didnt have that option. After 4 years of me living on the streets, and acting a fool, I became pregnant at 16. After an abusive moment with my boyfriend, I went home to live with my grandmother. I had enough of the street life, and had to do something better for my child. My mother lived there too. She said she was clean, and we believed her. Until one night, when my son was about 6 weeks old, she came home, drunk as I dont know what, with no pants on. That was the first and last time I ever put my hands on my mother. She tried to take my 6 week old son and walk down the steps with him. Yes, she is my mother. But that was MY child and I was gonna be damned if she put him at risk attempting to walk (or stumble) down some steps with him as drunk as she was. So I grabbed my son, passed him to my gram, and she swung at me. I didnt punch her, just kind of pushed her to the ground. Needless to say, she went into rehab after that. 5 years strong, she is clean. She is on the head of the NA committees, goes to all the meetings and events and goes on trips with them. She has eliminated almost all of her people places and things. Theres still a couple she cant let go of for some reason I will never understand, but she knows how to distance herself if it becomes to hard. She turned her life around, and when I fell, she was finally there to pick me up. I went back to that abusive boyfriend, and got pregnant again. After I had our daughter, he put me and the kids out on the streets. Not to mention, he broke my foot stomping on it because I kept knocking on the door because he had my shoes. So my mommy, and my aunt, came and got the kids. I was homeless, in an abusive relationship, and needed to get MYself together. So they took the kids, for 2 years, while I got myself stable. And that is a gift that I can never repay her for. By the time I got the kids back, I was married, had a house, had 4 kids, and was pregnant with the 5th. My mom is by my side through it all. She has my back, no matter what. If i need her, or my kids need her, she will drop everything. (Most of the time anyway) She takes the hour drive to my house, just to take me food shopping. She is more like my best friend, then my mother. I love her so much, and I am so proud of her. Without her, I dont know where I would be. |
